The Quilon Athletic Club
Kollam formerly known as Desinganadu was the capital city of the historic Venad Kingdom and Travancore Kingdom. Malayalam Calendar (Kolla Varsham) is named after the place Kollam. From ancient times Kollam has played major roles in the business, economic, cultural, religious and political history of India.
The Quilon Athletic Club which is in its centennial year has contributed much to the promotion of sports and games in Kerala.The history of both the Quilon Athletic Club and Sports in Kollam go hand in hand. The inception of this club was by the initiative taken by the European officials of Harrisons Company and Football lovers in the year 1921. K.G. Parameswaran Pillai and A.J. Declas were the pioneers of the ‘Quilon Athletic Association’ who set the ball rolling in the minds of Kollamites. Later it was renamed as ‘Quilon Athletic Club’.
The Quilon Athletic Club is the building block of outstanding players like Mr. Eral Declas, Mr. Thomas Antony, Mr. Indrapalan Nair, Mr. K.K. Goplakrishnan and athletes like Olympian Mr. M.B. Suresh Babu, Olympian Mr. T.C. Yohannan, Asiad Athlete Mr. K. Regunathan, Mr. M.B. Sathyanandan, Mrs. Eavis Peter, Mrs. Janis Spink, Mrs. N. Radha, Mrs. Leelamma, Mrs. P.R. Mallika etc. who represented in the various State, National and International Sports and Games and thus brought laurels to Kerala State and our Country.
The Quilon Athletic Club was instrumental in the conduct of Santhosh Tropy Football tournament 1966, Federation Cup Football tournament, Pentangular Football tournament, National Athletic Meet, National Boxing Championship, National Handball Championship, National Wrestling Championship and various District level & State level meets.
The path paved by our predecessors has been followed throughout these years with the aim of burning brightly the torch of fire instilling the spirit of Competition and Sportsmanship.
